Aviation Challenge (Huntsville, Alabama)
November 7-9, 2014
Discounted Registration Deadline: April 30, 2014
Regular Registration Deadline
: August 31, 2014

What we're doing...
Join us for the Aviation Challenge Pathfinder program and learn land survival techniques, perform air-to-air simulated missions, and take part in a Top Gun competition!

Based at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, the Pathfinder program is a shortened (3-day) version of the weeklong camps. During the program, we'll train as jet fighter pilots on the simulators, learn survival training, participate in realistic flying missions, learn about the science and history of flight, and more.

Parents will be able to attend and participate fully with their children ages 9 and in 4th grade and above. (Younger children will not be able to join us at camp.) Meals will be provided starting with dinner on Friday night and ending with breakfast on Sunday.

During the programs, we'll be divided into teams of 10-16 people. Please register early if you want to be assigned to the same team as another family.

Transportation and Accommodations
You'll need to arrange your own transportation to Huntsville, Alabama. If you travel by plane, they can provide transportation to and from Huntsville International Airport for an extra $15 per person. (They recommend we arrive by noon on Friday, and that our return flights on Sunday are scheduled at 1:00 pm or later to allow time for the graduation ceremony and airport transfer.)

The program fee includes sleeping accommodations in their "habitat" (dorm) facilities. We'll be assigned to rooms that have seven bunks, with shared (same-gender) bathrooms down the hall. Mixed-gender families will have their own space (space is limited - first registered, first served), but same-gender parties may be asked to room together.

Families who drive will need to provide their own linens (sleeping bags, pillow cases, towels, and other overnight necessities). Families arriving by air will have sheets, blankets, pillows and pillowcases provided for them, but will need to bring their own towels.

If you would rather sleep at a hotel instead of in a camp/dorm environment, I have arranged for rooms at a nearby hotel (very short walking distance to their facilities). The rooms have two double beds to accommodate four people, and the hotel can provide an air mattress, if needed, for a fifth person (or families can bring their own). Parking at the hotel is free, and our rate includes internet access. Check-in time is 3:00 pm. (If you're sleeping at our group hotel instead of the Habitat, the hotel will provide free shuttle service to and from the airport, if needed.)

NOTE: If you want to arrive on Thursday instead of Friday, you'll need to stay at a hotel that night since we won't have space in the Habitat until Friday evening. The hotel will provide a shuttle from the airport to the hotel.

Cost and what's included...

If you register by April 30, 2014:

$250
per person for members (2014-2015)
$265
per person for non-members

If you register on May 1, 2014 or later:

$275 per person for members (2014-2015)
$290 per person for non-members

Your payment covers your trip registration fee; all classes and activities during the program; meals starting with dinner on Friday, and ending with breakfast on Sunday; and lodging in their Habitat facilities from check-in on Friday until graduation on Sunday.

If you'd rather sleep at our group hotel, it will be an extra $102 per night for a family of 4 or 5. (Please remember to note your arrival date on your registration form.)

Payment terms and schedule...
A $50 per-person non-refundable deposit is due within 7 days from the date I confirm your registration.

The remaining balance will be due by April 30, 2014. If registering May 1, 2014 or later, the total balance is due within 7 days of confirmation.

Cancellation policy and refunds...
The $50 per person deposit is not refundable for any reason. The rest of your payment is refundable only if I have a family on my waiting list to replace you. No replacements, roster changes, or refunds will be made after September 15, 2014.

Your signed registration form and payment acknowledges that you understand and agree with my cancellation and refund policy.

This event may be cancelled if we don't have enough participants to meet the minimum required. If it's cancelled, you'll receive a full refund.

If you plan to arrange your own transportation, don't purchase non-refundable airfare until I confirm the trip. The airlines have their own refund policies, and I have no control over payment and refunds.

Want to go?
Early registration is recommended. We must have our group minimum by April 30, 2014 or we'll have to cancel. Early registrants will be more likely to have their first choice of accommodations. Each floor of the dorms (Habitats) are usually gender-specific, but they'll work with us to provide private space in the habitat for mixed families. If they run out of space, mixed-gender families must stay at a hotel. Early registrants will also have priority for team assignments. Your $50 per person non-refundable deposit will hold your spots in the dorms and on your preferred team.

Your deposit is due within 7 days of the date I confirm your registration. (Full payment within 7 days is due for registrations after April 30, 2014.) I'll send you a confirmation email with payment instructions. If I don't receive your payment by the due date, your registration will be deleted. No reminder emails will be sent.

After you complete the registration form, you'll receive an automated notification that it posted correctly. This email does not confirm your spots at this event - it just confirms that your registration went through correctly. Please email me if you have any questions or don't receive your automated email within 30 minutes of registering.

To register for this event, click here.

(I use the same registration form for several events. Please make sure you choose the correct event on the form and complete all required fields.)
Important Notes
This trip will be confirmed as soon as we have enough families to meet our group minimum. Please don't purchase non-refundable airfare until I confirm the trip.

Children must be in the 4th grade and 9 years old to participate in this event. (No exceptions, and no fudging on ages and grades, please. We found their guidelines to be very accurate on our last trip. It's just too fast-paced and busy for younger children.)

Your non-refundable deposit is due within 7 days of my registration confirmation email. Please don't register until you can pay this deposit.

I accept checks, bank checks, and BillPay (through your bank). I can't accept PayPal or credit cards (credit card checks are fine).

Many families who stayed at the habitat on our previous trip said they'd choose the hotel the next time they came (more private, more comfortable, more opportunity for some downtime, etc.). So if your budget can stand it, I'd recommend staying at the hotel. However, if your funds limited, the habitats are perfectly fine for the limited time we'll be there (and a few families said they'd choose them again because of the camp experience).

Check-in is on Friday, November 7, between 12:00 and 1:00 pm (CDT). The program ends after graduation (10:00 am CDT) on Sunday, November 9.

If you're arriving by plane on Friday and sleeping in the habitats, round-trip transportation from the airport is $15 per person. If you're arriving by plane and are sleeping at our group hotel, the hotel provides free shuttle service to and from the airport.

Please make sure you select the correct event on the registration form. (I use the same form for multiple events.)

Homeschoolers in other states (and Canada, and beyond) are welcome to join us.

A refund is not guaranteed if you cancel. Please read and understand my refund policy before you register and mail your payment.

This trip will be cancelled if we don't have enough registrations. If I have to cancel for any reason, you'll receive a refund of money you've paid to me. Please don't arrange for non-refundable air fare (if you're planning to fly in) until I confirm the trip.
