CSI: Crime Scene Insects
Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC, invites adults and children over 8
to their new exhibition exploring forensic entomology. Visitors can
observe real crime scene insects in action, such as carrion beetles,
dermestid (flesh-eating) beetles, blowflies and their maggots. They
can use their forensic crime-solving skills to investigate recreated
crime scenes, explore the five stages of decomposition, view morgue
drawers containing medical models of cadavers (sculpted models).

Patchwork Tales Storytelling Festival
York County Library presents the fifteenth annual storytelling
festival March 18-20 at the Baxter Hood Center at York Technical
College in Rock Hill, SC. Featuring storytellers Donald Davis,
Carmen Deedy, Bil Lepp and Tim Lowery, family entertainer Billy
Jonas and bluegrass music by Polecat Creek, this festival offers

Historic Rosedale Special
Exhibit and Tours
Historic Rosedale announces a special exhibit through March 31, 2010
of a slave reward poster issued in November 1857 in Virginia. The
artifact poster with its original one cent postage stamp offers a
reward of $300.00 for 3 escaped slaves. Tours of the home which
offer the opportunity to view this unique historic artifact are open
to the public each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 and
3:00 pm. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for Seniors and
students. Special tours may be arranged for groups of 10 or more.

Speech & Debate
Judges Needed
Five hundred volunteers are needed as judges for South Carolina's
NCFCA Qualifying Speech & Debate Tournament, hosted by Columbia
International University, from March 18-20. Two hundred homeschooled
students will arrive from NC, SC, GA, and FL for three days of
competition. Students will compete in several speech events and two
styles of debate. Judges will receive training, have access to
talented students, watch stimulating presentations, and enjoy tasty
refreshments. No speech or debate experience is needed to be a
community judge. The time commitment is approximately 3 hours on any
one of the tournament days, and there are sessions to choose from
beginning at 7:30 in the morning and ending at 8:30 in the evening.

BubbleWrap® Competition for Young
Inventors
Sealed Air Corporation and The National Museum of Education are
proud to announce the fourth annual BubbleWrap® Competition for
Young Inventors for grades 5-8. This innovative contest incorporates
national and state academic standards in the fields of engineering
design, problem-solving, entrepreneurship and all of the core

Big Red Ticket
Concerts
The Music Foundation of Spartanburg's "Big Red Ticket" outreach
program provides Kindergarten through 12th Grade students with a
voucher to attend a performance of any of six concerts free of
charge. The remaining concert includes: Miniatures & Masterpieces

Mad Science Homeschool
Classes
Mad Science of Columbia offers exciting, hands-on science classes
for homeschoolers each Thursday from 12:30-1:30 pm in a fun,
interactive environment. Participants get pre- and post-class
resource packets that include vocabulary, reading suggestions, and
cross-curriculum ideas for relating to other subject areas. Children
also get a "take home" with each class designed to extend their

Living
History Saturdays at Historic Brattonsville
Step back in time at Historic Brattonsville on each Saturday from
10:00 am to 4:00 pm as costumed interpreters bring to life the 18th
and 19th centuries. Witness life in the Carolina Backcountry through
activities such as farming, shearing sheep, picking cotton and
military drills. Activities and demonstrations vary weekly. For

Culture and Heritage Museums
The Culture and Heritage Museums is a linked system of cultural
institutions in York County, SC, which includes Historic
Brattonsville, McCelvey Center, Museum of York County, the Future
Museum on the Catawba River and the new Children's Museum in Old
Town Rock Hill. As a group, they provide many educational programs
and field trip opportunities for homeschool families throughout the
