National Wild Turkey Federation Geocaching
101
Join the NWTF on Saturday, July 10, for Geocaching 101 (ages 6 and
up). Learn about the newest trend in recreational activities and go
on a high-tech treasure hunt. Program starts at 10:30 am at NWTF
headquarters in Edgefield. Participants will also tour the
Winchester Museum from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Free for NWTF members
and their children. Cost for non-members is $5 for adults and $2 for

Gardens of Salem Twilight
Tours
Old Salem Museums & Gardens in Winston-Salem, NC, invites
homeschoolers to join them to explore the horticultural heritage of
Old Salem during their Twilight Tours on July 15, 17, and 23. This
one-hour guided walking tour will take you through several of
Salem's gardens from the 18th-century garden plot of the Miksch
family, to the large garden maintained by the Single Brothers'
Choir, to the more decorative garden of the 19th-century Vogler
home. You'll learn about gardening practices of the period, heirloom
varieties of vegetables, herbs and flowers, along with present day
techniques used to preserve these plants. This tour includes walking
distances in a hilly area, standing outside, and standing for long
periods of time, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Tours are
limited and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

Farm-Girl Camp
Singing Horse Farm in Blythewood, SC, invites homeschool girls, ages
7 to 13, to their Farm Girl Summer Camp. Campers are immersed in
daily farm experiences, including caring for the animals and tending
the organic vegetable and herb garden. They will also learn
traditional skills, such as sewing and knitting, making butter, and
sprouting seeds. They also focus on character traits that come in
handy around a farm, such as gratitude, patience, compassion,
responsibility, and respect. Campers interact with horses, rabbits,
chickens, and other life on the farm. Camp facilitators are
experienced teachers, trained in Montessori education, with a
passion for the outdoors and working with children. Their remaining summer
dates are July 12-16, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Wild-Child Nature Camp
Singing Horse Farm in Blythewood, SC, invites homeschoolers to their
Wild Child Nature Camp on July 19-23, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Through creative play and guided adventure, campers learn about
plants, animals, and some wilderness survival skills. All activities
foster a love of nature and a connection to the earth and one
another. Skills like communication and teamwork, empathy, patience,
and problem solving are developed as campers are guided through camp
activities. Campers will explore nature through hikes and creative
study of plants and animals. They will learn about the plant kingdom
and the animal kingdom, and how human beings have classified life on
our planet. They can choose more in depth study as the week goes on,
and explore trees, leaves, seeds, flowers, roots, etc. They can
choose to study mammals, reptiles, birds, or amphibians. This camp

Family Hearthside Cooking &
Dining Experience
Old Salem Museums & Gardens in Winston-Salem, NC, invites
homeschoolers to join them on July 31 for their Family Hearthside
Cooking & Dining Experience. Families, with the help of costumed
staff, will prepare and eat a complete early 19th-century meal.
Participants use authentic recipes and hearth cooking techniques to
prepare and cook a meal. At the end of the session, relax and enjoy
your meal in 19th century surroundings. Visit their

NASA's Journey to the Stars Free DVD
NASA and the American Museum of Natural History have produced a
planetarium show about the stars in our cosmos including exploding
stars, giant stars, dwarf stars, neutron stars, and even our own
star, the Sun. But you don't have to go to a planetarium to
experience it because NASA will send you a Journey to the Stars DVD
free of charge! The DVD is being released on June 7th and comes with
a free teacher's guide and activities for grades 3-12 that are fun,
innovative, and meet national science standards. The show is
narrated by actress Whoopi Goldberg who takes you on a virtual trip

Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers
The SC State Museum's exhibit, Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers,
features actual artifacts as well as reproductions to illustrate the
lives and times of buccaneers during the heyday of piracy. It
displays a pirate ship’s bell, rigging hook, cannon balls, pewter
plates, buckles, ballast stones, cannon aprons and small vials of
gold dust. A concretion tank features mineralized artifacts as they
would have appeared when found on the ocean's floor. Visitors can
view money plundered by pirates, including silver "pieces of eight,"
gold doubloons, and Spanish reals. Reproduction cannons from pirate
ships give guests the feel of being on the deck of a pirate ship.
Hands-on elements include: reproduction weapons, such as swords,
pistols and muskets, learn to tie a variety of sailor's knots, walk
off "paces" from a treasure map, try on reproduction pirate
clothing, take pictures at a ship's wheel, and more. This exhibit
ends on September 19, 2010. For more information, visit their

ScienceSouth Summer Camps
Enjoy a summer of fun and learning at one of ScienceSouth's
week-long science themed camps. Mix it up with some crazy chemistry,
find out what’s alive and kicking in biology, go to extremes with
engineering, or maybe sleuth your way to the truth to solve the
ScienceSouth mystery. You can do all this and more at one of
ScienceSouth's five weeks of camp, where there's a little science
for everyone. This year they’ve added a camp for junior scientists
(grades 1-3), the rest are for rising 4th-8th grades. For cost and

Mad Science Homeschool
Classes
Mad Science of Columbia offers exciting, hands-on science classes
for homeschoolers each Thursday from 12:30-1:30 pm in a fun,
interactive environment. Participants get pre- and post-class
resource packets that include vocabulary, reading suggestions, and
cross-curriculum ideas for relating to other subject areas. Children
also get a "take home" with each class designed to extend their

Living
History Saturdays at Historic Brattonsville
Step back in time at Historic Brattonsville on each Saturday from
10:00 am to 4:00 pm as costumed interpreters bring to life the 18th
and 19th centuries. Witness life in the Carolina Backcountry through
activities such as farming, shearing sheep, picking cotton and
military drills. Activities and demonstrations vary weekly. For

Culture and Heritage Museums
The Culture and Heritage Museums is a linked system of cultural
institutions in York County, SC, which includes Historic
Brattonsville, McCelvey Center, Museum of York County, the Future
Museum on the Catawba River and the new Children's Museum in Old
Town Rock Hill. As a group, they provide many educational programs
and field trip opportunities for homeschool families throughout the
