September Events
Want to add an event? Send us an
email
with the details. I'll be more likely to list your event quickly if
it's written in the format you see below (one paragraph, to the
point, with contact info, preferably a website). If it's a long
description and I have to spend a lot of time editing for length,
I'll put it off, or not post it at all due to time limitations.

Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers
The SC State Museum's exhibit, Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers,
features actual artifacts as well as reproductions to illustrate the
lives and times of buccaneers during the heyday of piracy. It
displays a pirate ship’s bell, rigging hook, cannon balls, pewter
plates, buckles, ballast stones, cannon aprons and small vials of
gold dust. A concretion tank features mineralized artifacts as they
would have appeared when found on the ocean's floor. Visitors can
view money plundered by pirates, including silver "pieces of eight,"
gold doubloons, and Spanish reals. Reproduction cannons from pirate
ships give guests the feel of being on the deck of a pirate ship.
Hands-on elements include: reproduction weapons, such as swords,
pistols and muskets, learn to tie a variety of sailor's knots, walk
off "paces" from a treasure map, try on reproduction pirate
clothing, take pictures at a ship's wheel, and more. This exhibit
ends on September 19, 2010. For more information, visit their
website.
