Hi Every one, I would like to know if any of you know when would be a good time to start a high school age child taking the SC high school exam? My daughter will be going into the 10th grade. Should we start this year or wait till next school year (11th grade) ? Where can we find materials to help prepare for the test? She also will be taking the SAT because she plans to go to collage. I don't want these test to over lap. Thanks for any help.

Teresa, homeschooled high school students don't take the SC exit exam. They can take the PSAT and SAT (the College Board's tests), though. I'll talk more about testing in the High School special interest group once we get that going, but just wanted to let you know that you don't need to concern yourself with SC's exit exam. :smile2:

Dianna, Thanks so much for passing that information on. That is one thing we well not have to worry about. Where can I find in writing that homeschoolers don't have to take the exit exam? My daughter's tutor said a while back that she would have to take it. She is a great tutor but has not homeschool her children yet, therefor she is not aware of all the laws. I am still learning as you can see. Thanks again for your help.

Teresa, a copy of the law that Third Option homeschoolers operate under is on my Legal Requirements page:
http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/legal.htm

If you read it, you'll find everything that's required for homeschoolers, and testing is not one of the requirements. Please ask your tutor to learn the homeschooling laws before giving advice, especially if she helps any other homeschoolers. Misinformation can cause a lot of grief to parents, especially if they believe the person giving the information is knowledgeable and don't bother to double-check the information. :confused2

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help. :smile2:

Warmly,
Dianna

Dianna, I went to the laws page and read it. That should have been the first thing I did when we started homeschooling. :confused2 That was my fault for not doing more research on the subject. Our tutor is really a great lady and would not do anything to interfere with Monica's education. Her and I both are learning about homeschooling as we go. I thank you again for your help. I am sure I will have lots of other questions, but I am glad that we were able to start Monica homeschooling even though I have got a lot to learn about it.

Sincerely,
Teresa

Teresa, don't worry, you can learn along the way. I'm still learning, and I've been doing this for around 14 years! :smile2:
