Angie, in my area (and in most areas of SC), the homeschooling climate is very good and there's no need to keep an attorney on retainer. If you're thinking about joining HSLDA, I would recommend finding out as much as you can about them before deciding. They don't defend their members in all homeschooling situations, only specific situations, so you may not be getting the "protection" you think you're getting. Let me know if you need help finding links.

I think I am beginning to agree. I dont know what they can offer me. I am relieved about the homeschooling climate here.

I've been a member of HSLDA for, well, years.......... not sure how many! :0)
Although I feel like the 'climate' is good here, I still like to know that I have someone to call if I ever need it......... but the biggest reason I'm a member is to support OTHER homeschoolers who need it - for 'me' it's a way of supporting homeschooling in general!

I am a member of HSLDA. I think it is worth money. You never know what may come up. Momtoone
