Almost everyone I've talked to thinks Konos is a good program, but very teacher-intensive and time-intensive. From the comments others have made, I gather that few people stick with it unless they're in a co-op and can share the workload among several families. Hopefully others with more personal experience can share more details about it.
Warmly,
Dianna

I used this for a couple of years. It was perfect for my tactile, non-conformist learner! Honestly, I did not think the prep was that bad. I had used unit studies before and was accustomed to going to the library to get books. And keep in mind, you do not have to do all the activities. When we were looking over a new unit, I would ask my older son which activities seemed interesting to him. That helped weed out the ones that would have wasted our time. And just the other day my younger son, who just finished 1st grade, recalled the time when we were studying Pilgrims and spent 24 hours pretending to be a passenger on the Mayflower. We did that activity almost 2 years ago, but boy, did it stick! As far as planning and executing, I tried to not let it overwhelm me, and just enjoy the books and activities. Konos also has a couple of Yahoo groups that are very active. If you have an opportunity to co-op with a few other families, you will really enjoy it.

We have used Konos to supplement our homeschooling. It is very thorough and easy to prepare each unit for teaching. The best part is that the same unit can be taught to children of different ages. Each unit has separate ideas that will benefit in interest any age group. Every unit that we have studied using KONOS, sticks with them. They never forget what I have taught. It appeals to every learning style. They read it, do it, understand it!
Good luck!

Hi,
I just came across an ad for Konos in a Fall 2005 issue of The Old Schoolhouse. It says "NEW", so maybe they revamped it. It is called Konos In-A-Box, it is an 18 week curriculum (different themes to choose from) and the ad says the author wrote out entire lessons and models what to say and what to do for moms. It looks like books and all supplies are included.

That was the one I was looking at. I think I will try it this year. We are at the library all the time. I don't mind the work to get it ready. I really need something to keep her interest and her hands busy.
