well, today i made it official... we are now a homeschooling family! we decided on joining Grace Association and we are now members of an accountability group! holy moly! i'm excited, nervous... but more excited than nervous. we chose Lighthouse Academy as our name. we decided on that because of the area we are in (charleston) and because when you are lost at sea you look for the lighthouse to guide you in safely. our daughter has struggled so much through the years so we thought it fit her. so anywho, i just had to share with everyone! wooo-hoooooo! :cheer2:

:aniflower Good lUck Sara...you are entering a wonderful life! I have two boys, 10 & 6. We have homeschooled for 4 years and I can't imagine ever going back to the staus quo. When people question me about homeschooling I always tell them it isn't just about the education...it's a way of life.
I was talking to my sister-in-law one day and she admitted she didn't even know what kind of books my 10 year old niece likes to read. (She is in public school..followed by after school care until a parent gets off of work.) It just hurt my heart. I love the knowledge I have of my children and really being able to get to know them as people. We are a close family but then again...isn't that how it should be? Enjoy your journey and have fun!

thanks dianna! i'm sure i will have a lot of questions! lol! i also joined a local support group (actually found the link from here so ty by the way) and it looks very active. my daughter was so excited when i told her the things that they do and that there are other military kids that belong. i have already learned that i will be learning from my daughter as well. i am not a social person and i don't usually seek out people as a rule. my daughter is opposite of me. she loves to meet new people and is VERY social. so the lesson i am learning is to get out there not only for her but for me too! tomorrow is her last day of public school... i can't believe that this is it! homeschool bound after tomorrow! :biggrin2:

You have entered a wonderful world.
I have homeschooled 13 years and have thought alot lately about how much it has changed my life for the better. I have ran across many resources that has helped my family so much through homeschooling materials, web sites and book fairs. I would have never came across most if it wasn't for homeschooling.
What I have enjoyed alot is when people who have criticized me in the begainning for homeschooling, have came to ask how to homeschool years later!
Our homeschool name is a cheat.... Faith Christian School. Why??? because I had no intentions to homeschool ever. When things weren't going great in third grade at a pricey christian school, I begain the journey. I stepped out on "faith" also, I thought I'd cheat a little since a christian school about an hour away is named Faith.I thought if anyone ask, they would reconize the name and the kids wouldn't be embarassed. My, how far I have come. Now, I could care less what people think.
I have gradurated two and they have done great in college. One thing that I hear now is two fold.... how wonderful they are and on the flip side, I am careful who I complain to. A lady boldly told me...."It is because they homeschooled and was sheltered from the world." No one says that children do things in their twenties because they were public educated. I never hang my dirty laundry to people who are totally against homeschooling again.
I have had snail learners.... remember two things..... I say often,"All kids are smart! You just need to find out what area they are smart in."
My husband say, "Their learning would be much more delayed in public school. They would stick them in resource and their they would sit and would not be better off in the long run."
If you need any help, please e-mail me private.
One of my children is dyslexic and I was told by a christian school teacher that she can't learn, needs better clothes and all her problems was due to my parenting styles. I took her out, wished I had sooner. She was on the deans list through most of her college, only math has brought her down, she usually takes each math class twiced. She currently has a 4.0 GPA. Strange for oneone who was told she coulden't learn! I will be your cheerleader! You Go Girl!!!!!
