I am looking at a third option group that we like, however, in addition to the 180 day SC state law requirement, they also require 1000 hours of schooling within those 180 days for their members.

Now I am thinking towards High School. If each credit is 120 hours, then my child would have to take almost 9 subjects a year to fulfill this time requirement? That is A LOT of subjects each year, isn't it? Too much?? I was thinking 4 "core classes" and 2 electives each year, does that sound more reasonable?

I may be looking at another group. Let me know what you think.

I'm not a member of HSLDA but they do have a pretty good website for homeschool thru high school...http://www.hslda.org/highschool/default.asp.

Also Dianna answered this question on 8/21/05 in the Homeschool 101 forum...I think this is link: http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124

I'm just starting the high school journey, myself.

I personally wouldn't like to be bound by another person's time requirement, especially since it's not mandated in SC's homeschooling law. It sounds like you don't like being bound by this, either. I would recommend that you choose an association that doesn't have this requirement. Six to eight courses a year is a normal load, depending on whether they do block scheduling, so your plan sounds more reasonable to me.

Warmly,
