It's time for a new contest! :smile2:
Let's spice our summer up a bit by sharing our favorite summertime projects, fun stuff, experiments, crafts, etc. Post your ideas in this thread and you'll have a chance to win your choice of great prizes! I'll award one prize a day until the contest ends. If you're the only one to post on a specific day, you'll automatically be the winner. If more than one person posts, I'll put all your names in a hat and let my children choose the winner. [Limit one prize per person in this contest.]
For a list of prizes, see our contests page at http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/contests.htm
Have fun and post away... I'll even pay the postage!
Warmly,
Dianna

My summertime project is to grow flowers. So far we planted three rose bushes that have bloomed. I didn't exscpect that they'd bllom this year. Apparently they are the type that blooms all summer long, so this is an added treat.
We have planed azalea bushes and look forward to seeing the fruits of our labors this spring.
I want to plant sunfloweres as they are so pretty and i was told so easy to grow, but I found last year that it wasn't the case. if you don't succeed, try try again. So, we paln to try to grow sunflowers again.
If we are able to grow with a green thumb, I plan to do a square foot vegetable garden next year.

We acutally ended up this year with a great summer project, we raised puppies. Our lab had puppies.. The kids really enjoyed watching them grow and it was a hard lesson for them to let them go when we gave them away. We are also building a playhouse in our backyard, using things we find, IN other words not buying any materials.. Right now we have pretend walls and roofs.. LOL... We started out with a teepee made out of tree branches and covered with a tarp, but the wind kept blowing it over.

I have a lot of gloopy, slurpy, yucky experiments that would be a lot of fun for the kids to do outside this summer. I included them in a previous newsletter I wrote. If I can find them, I'll post them for you to enjoy! (If I forget, remind me...). :smile2:

If this is still open, here's a fun thing my son and I did recently. We used different types of soaps (dish, reall bubbles and liquid clothes detergent) and mixed them with water to see which kind made the "best" bubbles (ie, the easiest, biggest, etc.). The real bubbles won, followed by the dish detergent, then clothes detergent. It was fun and something that even at his age (almost 4) he enjoyed.

My daughter (KaitlynP) and I decided our summer project is to incubate her Grandma's peahen eggs (peacock) since they do not sit on them. This is usually the only way to get baby peacocks and peahens! We found an incubator for $20 shipped on eBay and it is on its way. We are very excited!!

Thanks for participating in this contest, everyone! It's now over and another contest will be coming up soon... stay tuned! :smile2:
PS I'll try to post my yucky, gooey experiments soon. I've been swamped lately finalizing the registrations for the Disney trip.

Summertime fun stuff!! A couple of weeks ago we got a large pickle jar and collected tadpoles and are watching them develop into bull frogs! (I think I look at them more than the kids!)
But last week was the best...well up to day! We found some eggs...on a hunch with a friend we figured they were skink eggs. So I put them in a jar with the lid off and put the jar in a brown paper bag. Just today I took the jar out of the bag and there were the eggs hatching! I put the eggs back where I found them and a couple that were out of the eggs ran off. One was 1/2 in 1/2 out and you could actually see it breathing! Again, I don't know who was more excited, me or the kids. I even checked on the eggs when I got home tonight from a class!
Now that was COOL!! or as my oldest says "Mom, that rocks!
