What is the name of your Home School? I would like to hear some of your ideas. I have heard of other homeschoolers making T-shirts, stationary, and school ID cards with their logo and school name. I think this is a great idea.

Doesn't the law require us to name our homeschool? Do you just use your last name or do you get creative?

Mine is nothing too original - Ridgeway Academy. I think the idea to T-shirts etc. would have been nice while my DD was still little. I wouldn't mind seeing some peoples' creations thought:smile2:

I don't think the law specifically requires us to name our homeschools, but most (if not all) associations do because we're considered private schools within the context of a homeschool (diplomas have our "school's" name on them, not the association's name).
One suggestion I can make about your name is not to use your last name or any family name, and not to make it sound cutesy ("Rainbow Academy" or "Frog Academy", for example). These names will go on the diploma and transcripts and you want college admission's staff and future employers to take your child's learning seriously.
I hope that helps.

I have decided to name mine Hope Academy.
Since a lot of hope and faith have brought me to this decision and that I really hope that I will succeed in this journey for my children.
Thanks

I'm going to name ours Pecan Grove Academy, since we live were there used to be a huge pecan grove about 60+ years ago. There are still quite a few of the pecan trees around too. I'm hoping it doesn't sound cheesy... :confused2

Imagine it being printed on a high school diploma. If it sounds okay to you, then it's fine.

"Seabrook Academy" - it is an island near Charleston that is in my family history. I think that would look okay on a diploma.:cool2:

If you don't like it, please tell me... I won't be hurt. I just don't want to embarrass my son any more than I already know I'm going to!

Any opinions on Pecan Grove Academy? It won't hurt my feelings if no one likes it... I'd rather know now than later on. So, offer up those opinions, please.

The name of our homeschool is "Confederate Academy of Higher Learning". My husband is a BIG history buff and decided that we had succeeded from the "UNION" (being school). We added "of Higher Learning" because that is what we are doing...we are taking it above and beyond! My daughter loves this name and we have T-shirts for her and my son. We also have a poster-sized banner on the wall of the enclosed front porch with our school name, established date, and etc. It was great fun!

I recommend that you keep it short enough to fit on a diploma, not "cutesy" because it will be the name that goes on the diploma and transcript, and don't use your last name (it will seem more legitimate to college officials and employers if it's not a "family-issued" diploma). I hope that helps! Think about it and give us some names you're considering and we'll chime in to tell you what we think. :smile2:

I've thought of Merlin Academy. from the sword and the stone movie. My cafemom homeschooler group said they also like the sword and the stone academy. new faith academy, and North Hills Academy. is what I've thought of so far.

We're Bear Mountain Homeschool...maybe I will drop "Homeschool" and use Acedemy instead. My husband and I joke that as the kids get older and discover what they are interested in, we are going to add "...school of Fine Arts" or whatever to the end.:smile2:

You guys have inspired me to rename our school. Our name is very basic and boring, just our last name and homeschool. I never thought about having a more "professional" name for highschool transcripts and so on. I'll have to think on it. :smile2:

Ours is Creekside Academy. When we moved down here we lived right beside a creek and that is how we got the name.

We named ours Pine Bluff Academy. It's the name of the street we live on and it is easy for the girls to remember. I ended up googling it just to make sure there wasn't actually another school with the same name.

My son named our school Hope Christian Academy! I kept pushing for Jeremiah 29 Academy, since Jeremiah 29:11 is sort of our family scripture and is posted across my son's bedroom wall. But, I like his idea better, after I thought about it, and decided to make the other my user name!
We have chosen All Saints Academy for our homeschool. We tried to pick just one Saint - but it was too hard!!!

We used our last name also. For years it's been a joke on our answering machine " you've reached the whitehouse--". So the name of our school became the Whitehouse Academy. In retrospect, I don't know if I like it. Please offer some creative critisim. Should I change it? My vote is yes.
Thanks,
Christy from Goose Creek:doubt:

Hi Everyone,
After endless brainstorming, I think we have it narrowed down our choices for names. Ugh. Is everyone else having this much difficulty settling on a name? Anyone and everyone, please step in and give me your thoughts.
"Woodlands Academy" - my kids love nature trails, plantations, etc...
" SeaScape Academy"- they also love any thing pertaining to the ocean
" Maritime Academy"
" Coastal Academy"
Thanks, Christy

Ours is The JRA Institute (Jeffrey, Ryley, Aaralynne). Hopefully, before it matters, we want to come up with something else it might stand for. Or, we may just change it all together.

Since making it through our first year of homeschooling, we have come to realize we do a lot more school work in the car than we do at home. We are changing our school name to Rolling Hills Academy.

I didn't even know we needed to name our home school till I came across this thread.
We've been talking about it and decided on "Hidden Acres Academy"
Hidden Acres was the name of the road we lived on when we married and conceived our daughter.
The land we live on now is also surrounded by woods and hidden from the road, so our acres are hidden in a sense, lol

Originally I was going to name our school using our last name. After reading all the creative names in this thread, I did some research on the meaning of names (basically baby name book). One of the meanings of the name Miles is Millstone.
So, I'm thinking of Millstone Academy. My other variation is adding an adjective, and it also fits my son's nickname (Mac)... how about Millstone Academy of Creativity?
We'll also have a motto, and Mac will pick the school colors. This is fun.

This one sounds better, but it would be very long on a diploma (it may not fit). But it does sound good and reflects your focus.

We named our homeschool, TreeStone Academy. I love trees and my son loves rocks and minerals. Plus, I like the visual of a tree (which represents wisdom, life, growth,) growing out of a large stone (which conveys a solid foundation)
I really like the names that other members have come up with. Very creative!
