Hi everyone.. :wave:This is my first year of homeschooling. I would like to get to know some of you. I've been searching the internet trying to find support groups around me and haven't had any luck close to me. I'm in Lake City. Is there anyone around this area?

A little about me and my family.

My husband and I will be homeschooling our two boys, ages 8 & 10. We begin on Aug 20.

Hello there! While I do not live near you (I'm not even sure where Lake City is!), this is also my first year. My son is only in preschool though, so we don't have to do all the paperwork yet. Anyway, welcome to the board! You'll find the folks here very helpful! :wave:

Hi!!! Lake city is about 30 minutes from me in Elgin i think.. I started in january. Homeschooling is hard, but worth it in the end. The one thing is to be patient, ( i struggle with this).. they have to get the public school out of them before they will do leaps and bounds at home.. My boys are 12 and 7.

I remember what it was like to have a preschooler. :smile2: Those were the days. I think you are doing the right thing by starting early.

I'm not sure where Elgin is. I will have to Google it. I've heard of it though. :smile2: Maybe we can get together sometimes. My 8 yr old has a hard time making friends. He's shy and has a very short attention span. So how is your first year going?

I did my first day today. My hubby had the boys yesterday. I have already changed my schedule. That just didn't work out today. I had the worst headache and I didn't get all my chores done.

Well, I'm gonna stop whinning now. Thank you again for your welcomes.

Hi Amanda!

If Lake City is near Elgin, it's probably near NE Columbia? I'm not in my first year but I consider myself a beginner. My oldest is just starting 2nd grade. They've never been to school so I feel like I'm starting from scratch.

From everything I've read, you should take a month for every year they've been in PS to de-program them from that atmosphere and relax. Even though your kids were in school a long time every day, it's not suppose to take that long each day to homeschool them. (I've read lots so I'm textbook savvy, just not very experienced in the actual practice of homeschooling. LOL)
