Hello I started homeschooling my daughter (2nd) this year and it is going pretty good. I am just wondering is there anyone else out there who works outside the home???:confused2
I do full time and I struggle at times. I just wonder how anyone else handles it. I would love not to work or work from home, but that does not seem to be possible. There just seems to be so much pressure, I know I signed up for this adventure and I will do it and hopefully do it well. My daughter learns and enjoys it. I guess I just want to know I am not the only one in this boat. People tell me I am crazy all the time and that it is not fair to my daughter. But I don't think it is crazy to want to teach my daughter with love, compation, faith and safety.
Thanks for your time.:rolleyes2

I work full time and homeschool 2 boys ages 12 and 7. I do get to work from home, i work for blue cross, and that helps some but i am tied to my desk from 1130-8 except for lunch from 3-4, people tell me i am crazy too and there are days when i want to throw in the towel but i somehow keep plugging along. we do most of our work before i start to work and then some more on my lunch hour. People tell me i am jipping my kids but I dont see it that way, people like us just have to work a little harder to make it work that is all, and to find ways to get them involved with other kids and activities, that is harder too when you have to work. I know several other people who work full time and homeschool, so you are so not alone!!!! Just take it one day at a time and dont listen to everyone else. It does get frusterating, there are times when i feel totally worn out like i cant go one more minute, but then it passes, you can usually tell for me, b/c i will post my frusterations here. (like earlier today!!!) LOL.. What part of SC are you in? I am in Elgin.

I've always worked part-time or full-time while homeschooling, most of the time from home, but sometimes not. When I worked outside of the home, I just did all the workbook-type learning at night when I was there to oversee it. The non-workbook things like reading, watching educational videos, experiments etc, were done with my husband during the day (we worked different shifts). If my husband and I both worked first shift, I'd just schedule our learning during the evening hours and weekends as much as possible. Remember that you can arrange homeschooling around your schedule - it doesn't have to conform to the public school's schedule.

Warmly,
Dianna

Thank you both for that reassurance. I try to get home and start lessons by 4pm and we do stuff on the weekends. I unfortunately don't have the help from my husband.. My daughter loves and asks for more most of the time. I guess when I look around at the other local homeschoolers, most mothers don't work and it makes me feel bad that I can't be there more for my children. I know I should not do that and that I am doing the best I can for them, but sometimes it just does not feel like enough. Thanks to you for listening, I guess I just needed to get some feelings out.
I live in Summerville.

Thanks again,
Melissa

I have read where a few of you work from home. I really need to make some extra money and would like to work from home. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi there! I am new on here. My name is Gwen and I work from home. I do medical transcription. I did do a correspondance course for this a LONG time ago. I have been doing this for 10 years. You might want to look into it and if you have any questions about it you can just shoot me an e-mail. I would be glad to answer anything for you about it. It involves a lot of typing, but you do get to stay home with your children and you do get to make money. I am officially starting homeschool next week, but have been in "training" for a few weeks. Lottie really enjoys it and seems to learn so much more so it is worth the "what am I doing" thing that rushes through your head. The one thing I had in my favor is that my whole family is really going for this. They love the idea of me teaching her at home because they know that I will open her up to a whole new world of thinking and they know that I will do it again and again and again until she "gets it". If I can help, please let me know. Best wishes, Gwen:smile2:

Hi! I would be very interested in the medical transcriptionist job. Any information you have would be appreciated. I have always wanted to try that, but I didn't know how to get started without getting ripped off by some company promising things they never deliver. I need to help me husband with some debt, but I want to be able to stay home and homeschool my son. Thanks for any information you may have. Patricia

 Hi there TLCmom! I sent you a private message regarding some routes you could go to learn Medical Transcription on Monday. I hope you received it. You can go on-line to Harcort Learning and find out about the Medical Transcription course. That is where I took my course. It took me about 1 1/2 years to complete. There is no short cut to this I'm afraid, but when you are through you can make pretty good money and stay home too! There are other companies, but I have not dealt with any of them so I can't recommend them. Harcort however, was very easy to deal with and they were "straight up". I hope this helps, if you need anything more, just hollar! Gwen:wave:

i looked into working from home at www.workathomeagent.com (http://www.workathomeagent.com)
i did not take this job because it was for weekends working the graveyard shift...which does not fit my schedule at all. i'm an early to bed, early to rise kinda gal. my husband's cousin works through this company though and that's how i heard about it. she answers phones for shopping network channels. you have to go through training courses, but there are no fees associated with working here. you need a computer and DSL and a phone headset... and it has to be in a quiet place (i.e no dogs barking or yelling kids) but it's a legitimate job. having said that though...i have personally never worked for this company and i can't really validate anything about them or give you any info beyond this. it's worth looking into though. good luck!
