Hi everyone,
I've decided against the scouting program for several reasons. I think handling the logistics of it would be too time-consuming for me due to the way the scout program is split up into districts in SC. There isn't one central office where I can refer everyone to get what they need, so parents would have varying experiences with offices. Some will deal with districts that know about the Lone or Juliette scout programs, others will be stuck with those who don't even know these programs exist, and yet others will have a district that knows about these programs but will try to talk you out of registering with them because they want you as part of a troop.
After talking to them for a period of several weeks about how we can better coordinate this for my members, I was just left with a very "schoolish" and "bureaucratic" feeling and finally decided against it.
If you still want your children in scouts, you can try registering as Lone or Juliette scouts and see how things go. Or you can join a local troop, or create a local homeschool troop.
I apologize to those who were looking forward to this... I was, too.
