Hi everyone,

I've decided against the scouting program for several reasons. I think handling the logistics of it would be too time-consuming for me due to the way the scout program is split up into districts in SC. There isn't one central office where I can refer everyone to get what they need, so parents would have varying experiences with offices. Some will deal with districts that know about the Lone or Juliette scout programs, others will be stuck with those who don't even know these programs exist, and yet others will have a district that knows about these programs but will try to talk you out of registering with them because they want you as part of a troop.

After talking to them for a period of several weeks about how we can better coordinate this for my members, I was just left with a very "schoolish" and "bureaucratic" feeling and finally decided against it.

If you still want your children in scouts, you can try registering as Lone or Juliette scouts and see how things go. Or you can join a local troop, or create a local homeschool troop.

I apologize to those who were looking forward to this... I was, too.

Hi, I know this thread is old but I wanted to respond anyway. I have been involved with scouting for many years. I have been a Den Leader for 5 years, Day Camp Director for 5 years and even started my own Venturing Unit.
This is with BSA. I know all of the "higher ups" at the Scout Office in Mauldin and will be more than willing to help out with anyone wishing to start up something. Starting a unit isn't a hard thing and if the kids are over 14 then a Venturing crew would be best because of it being co-ed.

Under 14, BSA and GSA would be best because of it being based on gender.
Anyway, feel free to contact me if you are still interested in starting something.

Thank you so much for your offer. I may revisit this idea in the future, and will keep you in mind if we decide to go ahead with this.

Warmly,
