Hello,

 My name is Monica, I have been looking at this board for a few days now and really like that parents of homeschoolers can find out alot of info. here. I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with.
We have pulled our son out of public school just last week, we belong to an association and I went and bought some curriculum from a local store, and I have ordered some that we have not recieved yet.
I guess my first question would have to be, do we start teaching what we have and add the others as we recieve them or do we just wait on them all to come in?
Next our son is in the 10th grade he was taking College Prep English 2 this year (2nd semester) in school he had College Prep 1 in the 9th grade and done very well. We ordered 10th grade English books from A Becka it contains Grammar and Composition,Literature and Vocabulary is there anyone who is or has taught their child College Prep here that can maybe give me some kind of idea what college prep consists of we never had it when we were in school so we don't have any idea as to what is taught in it.

Last one for now....lol I am sure I will have plenty more in the near furture....
Where can you get curriculum to teach Government and Economics and does it have to be taught in twelfth grade or can we do it in any high school grade level?

Thank You
God Bless
Monica

Hey Monica!
I just wanted to say good luck and I know you'll find lots of help here. My best advise is try to enjoy yourself and don't be too nervous. In a few months this will be second nature. Remember what I said about calling me anytime.:biggrin2: Love and God Bless!

Hello,

Welcome to our forums, Monica - we're glad to have you with us! :smile2:

I guess my first question would have to be, do we start teaching what we have and add the others as we recieve them or do we just wait on them all to come in?

Yes, you can begin homeschooling at any time, with whatever resources you have. And remember that you can use educational television, library books, magazines, and other non-textbook materials to teach your children.

Although I don't use ABeka, I'm pretty sure that their 10th grade English books equal college prep level work. All that means is that you're using materials that would prepare your child for college-level work. A Beka usually does that.

Where can you get curriculum to teach Government and Economics and does it have to be taught in twelfth grade or can we do it in any high school grade level?

You can cover it whenever you want. We used the Government materials from Great Source. Here's a link: http://www.greatsource.com/ click on Social Studies, then on the American Government link.

For Economics, we used a variety of materials. My son read Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? [read a description here: http://www.bluestockingpress.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=79], Naked Economics, and a couple of other interesting books about economics - all checked out from our local library. Take a look at what's available there.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Warmly,
Dianna
