i am a new homeschool mom and know that i am able to do unit studies by using books from the library...but like in history is there a specific thing they need to be learning from it by age 8?
i hate to get all textbooks because well it would feel like school all over again to her...any suggestions on where i could get curriculum ?
thanks

Stacy, I think staying away from textbooks (especially this young) is a good idea. There are no requirements in the different subject areas for each grade level, so just follow your daughter's interests as much as possible. History is not a required subject, social studies is, and it covers many areas - geography, history, etc. So if geography fits her interests better, you could do that instead. For a list of different social studies topics, as well as a "typical" course of study for preschool through high school, see World Book's Typical Course of Study at http://www.worldbook.com/wb/Students?curriculum

Just use it as a guideline, though. Don't feel that you have to follow it. :smile2:

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Warmly,
Dianna
