I was wondering if anyone else has a child with special needs. My oldest daughter, Rachel has Trichothiodystrophy. She was 2 when her Dad and I got married and I've been mom everysince. :biggrin2: Rachel goes to public school to recieve her therapies(speech, physical, O.T.). Is anyone homeschooling a child with special needs? I would be interested in a discussion group for this; if there were enough people.

Chris, I am not sure if I know anything about your daughters special need. I will have to look it up. My daughter has trouble with reading. She has some dyslexic tendencies. We did not realize this until our second year to homeschool. She went to PS for K-4 and K=5. No one ever mentioned that she was having a problem. Big surprise! Our first year was an unschooling year. I just used 100 easy lessons with her. She did not think that they were easy. Half way through, I realized some of her problem areas. She was confusing her b s, d s, and p s. She also had problems with blends and fluency. I found a new program using the spalding method, and have had great success. I hope that you will find the support here that you are looking for.
Good luck,
Sharon

Chris, could you post your message in the Special Interest Groups area (scroll down below the Children's areas) and invite people to join? People who are interested in joining could post there, and once you have several people join, I can create a new forum area just for your group.

My daughter has a processing disorder. We had her tested this past summer. She is a smart girl too. Just some problems putting this on paper and with reading.

Where did you have her tested? My son has those same problems

Learning RX in Greenville. The test is cheap but getting the help was going to cost us about $8000 for 100% results. Not much of an option for us. They do have cheaper plans but didn't give 100% results with them.
