We plan to offer several short-term courses this semester (Spring 2008), using local field trips (to museums, science centers, historic parks, etc) as a springboard for research and writing projects. Let us know if you are interested in these types of courses and have a specific location or project you would like to participate in.

HI. You had asked a while back for input on places to go for these courses. I looked at something at Historic Brattonsville in Rock Hill called Brattonsville Academy, where the kids have school for 4 hours just like they did in 1840. I don't know if anyone has done this before, but on the website, it sounded really educational, interesting, and fun! There were also cool things to do before and after the trip, that could be downloaded; great ideas for crafts, writing, worksheets, etc. It is $10/ child, and they have a minimum of 15. They are booked through April, so May is pretty much the only month left to book. If not this semester, maybe in the future! Thanks,
Michele

oops! I just got back on Brattonsville's website, and realized the Brattonsville Academy field trip that I mentioned in my last post is for 3rd - 4th graders only. However, they do offer other fun, educational opportunities for wider age ranges. Thanks, again.

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry I wasn't able to follow up on these courses. I had hoped that we would be able to go on field trips/excursions together during the week, and then use those as springboards for our classes. Due to some ongoing commitments, I haven't been able to plan the excursions, nor do I really have time during the week right now to do them. I'm sorry. I hope that we can find a way to do these in the near future.

For now, I need to stick to online courses. I'll post another message soon about writing courses, in case you're interested. :smile2:

Warmly,
Dianna
