Business - Stock Market - Entrepreneurship workshop / seminars for home school students
Dear Home Schoolers,
As a home school dad and business consultant, I have been teaching business classes to a group of 7th through 12th grade home school students in Vero Beach, Florida. After teaching these classes, I have felt a calling to teach home school students throughout the United States. Thus, I have designed two and five day seminar/workshops which I can present to home school students in your area, as we spend the summer and Fall in North Carolina.
The workshops are taught with a Biblical World View using the Socratic method. By asking questions, I have found students more enthusiastically explore new concepts. In addition to lectures with handouts; classes include group discussions, small group case studies followed by student presentations, and periodic review in the form of a game quiz show.
While it is important to first cover the business basics in the Introduction to Business Class, I also offer workshops on the Stock Market and Entrepreneurship which can be included in multiple day workshops.
Topics in the Introduction to Business Seminar include:
- Capitalism vs. Socialism vs. Communism
- Forms of business ownership - Sole Proprietor, Partnerships, Corporations
- Types of Businesses - Manufacturing, Distribution, Service
- Legal Aspects - Essentials of a Contract - Trademark, Copyright, Patent
- The Profit and Loss statement (Income Statement) - Types of Income, Types of Expenses
- The Balance Sheet - Current and Fixed Assets, Long and Short Term Liabilities, Equity
- The Break Even point, and the profit:volume relationship
- The difference between Marketing, Branding, Public Relations, Advertising, and Sales
- What is Management? (Leadership)
- Present and Future Value Theory (Interest)
- Ratio analysis (and ratio myopia)
- The Stock Market (Introduction)
Cost for a two day presentation is $100 per student with a minimum of 20 students. Cost includes all materials, travel and accommodations. There is no charge for parents who attend, and they are both invited and encouraged to attend with their student. The host city will need to provide a classroom. The host city coordinator is given one free admission. Multiple child discounts and need based scholarships are available once the minimum number of students are confirmed. Students should bring their Bible, a writing instrument, and a calculator to the sessions. Certificates will be presented to participating students.
Please contact me by email, or at 1-800-972-1108 if you have any questions.
Thank you for your time, and May God continue to Bless you and your families,
Ted Schmidt

"Throw your nets on the right side of the boat ..." - Jesus (John 21:6)
Why are we here?
1. To learn how to observe a business enterprise not only from an academic and operational perspective, but also as a means to glorify God and help one grow spiritually. At the end of this class - when you walk into Walmart, or McDonald’s, you will see it differently. You will see it from an operational perspective - you will see assets, liabilities, expenses, marketing, and management. Additionally a Christian business should exhibit the appropriate character traits. Have you ever walked into a business, and said to yourself, “I think the owners of this business are Christians”. Why did you think so?
2. To not only learn how to identify the assets, liabilities, inventory, and marketing of the operation, but also see the opportunity for the owner and employer to witness, and use their God given gifts to produce fruit.
3. To fill the need to equip God’s people to be successful, ethical, moral business people.
God wants Christians to be in all walks of life that are glorifying to Him.
