Hey all,
I'm a homeschool grad in the upstate, and I've got an opportunity that I have to share with as many homeschoolers as possible.
It's a five-day political training program called Patriot Academy, and it takes place every summer in Austin, TX. What sets this program apart is that you don't just learn the political process, you live it at Patriot Academy. The students form a fully-functioning mock legislature, running committee meetings, debating bills, electing leaders and passing laws. And you do it all in the actual House chamber and committee rooms of the Texas Capitol Building!! Talk about amazing...there's just nothing like it.
If you're familiar with TeenPact, Patriot Academy is like TeenPact on steroids - about the closest thing you can get to living the life of an actual legislator without actually being one, and doing it all in a Conservative Christian setting. There are workshops on the Founding Fathers' view of government, principles of Conservatism, public speaking and media relations (this one is always a favorite - hands-on and interactive and loads of FUN!), panel discussions on some of today's pressing issues, etc.
I have the privilege of serving in the student leadership, and I would love to share more about Patriot Academy with anyone who would like more info. Students from all over the nation attend this event, so it's a great opportunity to network and form wonderful friendships. I was the first South Carolinian to attend, so we need some good representation this year from our wonderful state! :smile2: I am also available to present this opportunity to groups who would like to learn more about it.
