Join new and old friends on a journey through the ages — Mondays or Wednesdays
At The Artists’ Loft School, we introduce your child to artists and art throughout time, from cave paintings to modern day street murals, students will explore the meaning of art and how to view it. Themes of our art study include art in daily life, stories and histories, the human experience, invention and fantasy, art and nature, and finally art imitating art.
Our hands on approach, allows students to gain an appreciation of art by experiencing the process of creating a piece of art. Observation, research and experimentation are a part of how an artist approaches his or her work. Our goal is to provide the student with materials used by artists to experience that process with an emphasis on the visual elements of art; line, shape and mass, light, color, texture and pattern, space, and time and motion encompass the explorations into two and three, dimensional media.
What to expect:
Finished works of art
A knowledgeable appreciation of Art
Age and ability appropriate assignments
Respect for student generated ideas
In September we begin by studying the Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc cave paintings from 35,000 B.C.. Then we move to Egypt to study the Hieroglyphics where students will construct a Cartouche. Traveling through ancient Rome and Greece then onward, we discover the medieval era in Italy by designing and making a mosaic wall piece.
