Im wondering how long it takes to get my kid in homeschooling??? Tomarrow I will choose the assosation and send in the aplication and fees. Also I have chosen his curriculum from core curriculum. Do I order this now or after I am approved?
I am SO NERVOUS about all of this!!!!
Thank you, Angel
P.S.
When I choose the assosation, does it have to be the one closest to where we live???

Angel, most associations have quick turn-around times, but I'd recommend calling the association in addition to mailing your application so they'll know to expect it. Maybe that will speed things up a little. If you're certain of your curriculum choice, go ahead and order it now so you'll have it when you bring your son home. And no, you don't have to choose an association that's nearest to you. Choose the one that you feel would be best for your family.
Your nervousness will ease after a while. You'll get the hang of things soon and it'll all be "old hat" after a while. :biggrin2:
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Warmly,
Dianna

My son did not go to school on Sept. 2 and on the 6th I withdrew him. I took the paperwork to the association on the 7th and bought my curriculum through Abeka on the 8th. He gets credit through the association for the dsays he attended school this year.
I got my abeka materials on the 14th and my approval letter from the homeschool association on the 15th. The association (SCAIHS) put my start date as the 8th of September.
It really was quick.

That is really quick!!!
Im wondering, can I pull him out now?
I have been trying to choose an association from the list here on the board and alot of the web pages are hard to read. Some of the writing is on top of other writing. To start out, I am looking for an inexpensive way to go, 100 or less. This is unexpected and we were not prepared. We need to get him out the quickest way posible. My son is really getting bullied by his peers and I feel also by his teachers. His school has paperwork from his doctor in Arizona stating that he has ADHD and that medications do not works for him and instead of giving him the extra help he needs to stay on task they have other children constantally telling him what to do. This has made his self esteem go to nothing and he is aggrevated. Scott finally spoke out in class, the teacher wrote him up and he was suspended for this. I got a phone call from his principal stating if he has one more outburst in class he will be going to jail. He has no control over this and his teachers know this but he is being disaplined for it. I know this is agianst the law. To top it off, this phone call was made in front of my son, so now he is having a harder time staying on task because he is worried about being taken to jail. This is just not right!!!
Goodness, Im sorry that is so long. I am just so worried. Im not even taking him to school today. He shouldnt have to be somewhere he does not feel safe.
Thank you for listening.

Angel, I wouldn't suggest officially withdrawing him until you're registered with an association. It's odd what you're saying about the websites. I've never had a problem viewing them. What web browser are you using?
I'll send you a private message to get more information from you so I can recommend the fastest way to go. :smile2:

Hi Angel,
I am having dejavu....your story sounds like mine!!
My son was threatened with jail too....and believe me they can arrest him...happened to a friend of mine! My son is ADD too! and ODD and Dyslexic...and any other label they love to put on our precious BOYS!!!
My brother said maybe he was a hebrew in a previous life cause they wrote left to right.....hahahaha!!!!
I took my son out right away and then joined an association...but I did it over the Christmas holidays several years ago...they can miss school, anyway for sickness....this is my own opinion and you don't have to substitute it for anyone else's but if it were me and it was, my son did not go back!!
The problem you are having with the web sites is probably easily fixed....Try this...IF you have Internet Explorer go to top of page to VIEW....click.....Find TEXT SIZE.....and see what yours is set on....if it is Large or Larger....Click what is the next smallest like MEDIUM.....when you are on the web page...you are having a problem with!! You may have to refresh the page to fix it just hit F5....
Hope that fixes your problem...sometimes that happens when your text size is set too large on some pages!!
A big Hug for you!!! I know the pain & frustration of dealing with public school with no one willing to offer solutions just punishment!!!
I am moving to SC and not there yet, but would like to know if they have
Special Education" classes for these children? Here where I live and many other states, they have that for those kind of kids that have special needs. I never heard of going to jail for something in school unless you committ a crime. That's so extreme. I totally believe it, but that's terrible. They should change the law maybe? That's a scary thing for kids to have to think about.

Erin, I'm not sure if I understand your question. If you're asking if homeschooled children can participate in the school's special ed classes while homeschooling, then no, they can't. The schools do provide speech therapy, and I believe other forms of therapy, though.

Once I got my paper work from the association I could withdraw my child but not before. It wasn't legal then. I also did papers I printed on the computer for school, read books, etc before my curr books came in. It worked just fine for us. It actually helped in the process in getting adjusted.
