I just finished "Skyward" by Mary Alice Monroe the story takes place in Awendaw, SC and is a super book, I loved it. This is the review from Azon:

From Publishers Weekly
A devoted naturalist and native of South Carolina's Low Country, Monroe is in her element when describing the wonders of nature and the ways people relate to it. In her previous book, The Beach House, she sprinkled information about loggerhead turtles throughout her romance. This time around, she caters to bird-watchers. Harris Henderson handles injured birds with ease at his birds of prey rehab center, but he has no idea how to manage his diabetic five-year-old Marion. Enter Ella Majors, a pediatric nurse-turned-nanny. As Ella cares for the girl, she becomes an integral part of the Hendersons' lives and, before long, Harris begins to see her as more than a plain caretaker. Hauntingly beautiful relationships between birds and people add texture to the story. Most notable are the connections among an elderly black man named Lijah and his eagle, Santee, and a rooster that appears to guard both the center and Brady, a troubled teen working off a community service sentence. Monroe (aka Mary Alice Kruesi) successfully combines elements of women's fiction and romance in this lyrical tale. While it follows a more romantic arc than her previous book, it has enough depth and sophistication to appeal to a broad base of readers.

The book is not a mushy type love story and I really liked all the information about South Carolina's raptors, each chapter started with a heading of information on different types of raptors that we have in SC!!

I haven't read any of her other books, but I will now, a friend recommended this book and I am happy she did!!

I don't have nearly enough time to read as much as I used to (a book a day) I usually like the humorous murder mysteries my next book is Monica Ferris' "Embroidered Truths" I love this needlecraft mystery series!! Finished !!

Love to Read!!!

I'm reading the new Elmore Leonard, TheHot kid. He's one of my favorite writers alongside Carl Hiaasen. They're sort of mind candy, but enjoy them.

Ok finished Embroidered Truths and "Murder in a Vineyard Mansion by Philip Craig today and started the "Cat Who went bananas" today and will finish it tonight....would of finished sooner but its on CD and it is slower than I read....

What genre do you prefer???

I read about everything....just depends on my mood....from Fantasy, Science Fiction, Murder Mystery Series, Romantic Suspense, just don't care for foul language or graphic sex. Read plenty of Non Fiction too...Don't care for True Crime, Horror or Harlequin Romance type, never read one actually.....I like Historical Fiction very much too!! Run from MMPB's like to search for the different book!!

My next is Non Fiction "How the Irish saved Civilization" should be interesting....we shall see!!

And then I read all the kids books with them or before them if I want to see if they are suitable....I love children's books too and will always read them...LOL

If you ask me what my favorite thing to buy is......its Hands Down.... Books!!!!

I finished the Cat who.... book....have you ever finished a book and thought....Did someone rip out the last pages??? Well this one made me feel that way....I think Ms.Braun forgot the ending....geesh!! I was disappointed, one character disappeared at the end, no reason and another died trying to save a dog from a fire who she portrayed as the villian. Another death was never explained, just conjecture, this book was a dissapointment, I am used to the mystery being answered....anyway....I have loved many of the Cat who..... books, this one fell flat!!

Thanks! Keep the reviews coming! :smile2: Up until lately, I've been reading a lot of children's and young adult fiction and non-fiction. Some good ones off the top of my head were:

The House of the Scorpion (about cloning)
Nory Ryan's Song (Irish potato famine)
The River Between Us (Civil War days)
Snow Treasure (World War II)
Tangerine (fitting in, dealing with fear, bravery)
Dust to Eat: Drought and Depression in the 1930s
Homesick: My Own Story (China in the 1920’s, beginning of the communist movement in China)

and more... I really enjoy young adult fiction and non-fiction. :smile2:

OK....read another mystery....before the non fiction

"Broken Dishes" by Earlene Fowler

Ms. Fowler's mystery series is another of my favs, her books are all named after quilt patterns, as the main character Benni Harper runs a quilt museum. All her stories occur in the California Ranch Country and for the most part envolve some aspect of ranching. This book takes place on the The Broken DIS ranch. Her characters, at least I think are well developed and she always has depth to her writing, with historical facts that are interesting.

I liked this book....Her first book Fool's Puzzle is hard to find, but you don't have to read them in order to enjoy them!

I like to read most anythign with the exception of those cheezy romance novels...

I am more of a mystery/comedy buff and I love Janet Evanovich -- she is my favorite.

I am currently reading "Prep" by Curtis Sittenfeld. I also like Jodi Piccolt, Sue Grafton and I loved the Secret Life of Bees

I love to buy books and read books and borrow books as the library and bookstore are my favorite resting places.
