I was wondering how often you all test on a subject after each unit, chapter, or what? Do you do oral or written? Fill in the blank, etc.
I have two 3rd graders and a 7th grader. I do a mixture of all of it. I don't test as much as a public school would. Partly due to being with my own kids I can tell if they know the material we covered. Also listening to them telling others and talking between themselves.

I don't test much at all. When I do, I use the tests as reviews instead of for giving grades. I don't post grades on my bi-annual progress reports for my children (until the high school years). I just include a summary of topics studied. Once they hit high school it's a little different due to state scholarship requirements.
For my online courses, I do give tests so I can help parents decide on a grade for the course if they want to give one. But even then, I use them mainly for review.
I hope this makes sense... in the middle of trying a new meatloaf recipe and am going back and forth to check it as I type. If it turns out to be a good recipe, I'll post it in the recipe folder. :smile2:
