Hello I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kelley and I am a homeschooling mother of three. I have two boys (14 and 12) and a daughter (7). I am due to have number 4 in exactly two weeks, but I wish he would come tonight! We have been homeschooling now for 6 years and so far so good. I am glad to have found this site cause I haven't been able to contact many local homeschoolers. I live in North Charleston and I know that there are some around here but I have not really connected with them and since I don't have a lot of money or a reliable means of transportation we have pretty much been on our own the last 6 years.
I'm going to take some time and look around and I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Kelley! Congratulations on your soon-to-be newest bundle of joy! :smile2: Hopefully others will jump in here soon to give suggestions for meeting more homeschoolers in your area. I hope things are going well for your family.
Welcome to the site. I have homeschooled 7 years now. What do you use for books or do you make up your studies?

Hi, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I had my baby January 4th and well everything else is fuzzy right now. My newest and last son's name is Patrick James and right now he is rather unhappy with me, I put him down (bad, bad mommy).
I have tried a little bit of everything. I started out making things up as I went and then I tried preset curriculum's which have been a complete disaster so I will soon be going back to the original way and getting what I need as I need it.
My oldest son has decided that he wants to go to public school for his high school years (man I feel so old) so we are working on that. He wanted to go to a technical high school up the road. Unfortunately they have a lottery system to get in and we missed the deadline for next year so we are hunting around at a few other schools. He has been on a waiting list for a gifted and talented school here in the City of Charleston but that never worked out and the time for him to go is over since it only goes to the 8th grade. We just found out on the news that the school has a waiting list of 17,000! No wonder he never got picked, we were only waiting six years.

Congrats on the baby. I actually will be starting homeschool for the next school year, my daughter will be 7 (2nd grade), what do you do for your 7 year old?
I live in Summerville, so not to far from you. I am still trying to figure out all this to get ready.
Best of luck to you and your new one. I have a baby as well, well to think about it he's not a such a baby anymore, he will be one in March, wow I can't believe how fast time goes by.

My baby just turned 6 weeks old today, hard to imagine what I was going through 6 weeks ago.
My daughter is doing a bunch of different things. I bought a prepackaged curriculum from the homeschool superstore (think that is the right name) and she is working in some of the workbooks then she picks her own things to learn about (usually science) and we raid the local library she also does stuff on the computer (which she is waiting for right now).
Gotta go baby just cranked up, ready to feed....

Patrick James is the name that I picked for my egg in the 9th grade home ec class. LOL
James was after my dad and Patrick I just loved. Funny I never named my boys that. I still love the name.

Thanks guys. I am trudging through my days and I know that somewhere their is light at the end of this tunnel but I think the tunnel is longer than it used to be  . I chosen today to do an education overhaul for our homeschooling for the remainder of our school year, wheither I get it done or not remains to be seen.
I actually wanted to name my son Ethan James but my husband doesn't like the name Ethan so he became Patrick after me :smile2:, I just like th name James but now I'm having guilt because my husband said to name him Patrick Kenneth (after the man who took the place of his absent biological father) and I wasn't thinking clearly and said no. I have seriously though about changing his name but my husbands step-father's name is James so it kind of fits that way too.

Check out the local libraries to see what they have, the library in the City of Charleston has a whole section in the childrens area and another one upstairs that has tons of stuff. The first year I homeschooled my kids I didn't buy a thing cause I got everything I needed from the library. There are also two libraries on Dorchester Road that you can probably find many of the same things.
Only problem is you wouldn't be able to check anything out from them unless you want to pay an "out of town" fee of $25 to get the library card since you are not a resident of Charleston County. Your library in Summerville should have the same stuff mine does down here so you shouldn't have any problems finding information.
