one very terrified mom, who is completely fed up with the public school system and has lots of questions pertaining to homeschooling. I have a 10 year old son, who is vegan. He is very bright and not being given proper opportunity in school to excel. The bullying is outrageous, so the decision to pull him out, now, is a definite. I am a bit confused by the associations and their role. Could someone please define what it is I am to do as far as keeping records? I know the associations will tell me, but I cannot seem to choose one. I don't know what to look for, to find one that 'fits' us.
Rory, my son, is a free thinker and tends to explore many things on his own. He does love to read, so I think teaching at home will come easily, once I get past the 'what if's and what do I do now's'.
I have not told the school yet, as I do know I need an association to notify them. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
This is the first of a million questions, so please buckle your seat belts...it's going to be a bumpy ride;)

Allison, I moved your message to the Homeschool 101 forum because I think you may get more feedback here. Welcome to the forums, and welcome to homeschooling! :smile2:
The associations are there basically to give you legal status. SC has a compulsory attendance law, so you have to be "counted" somewhere - public school, private school, or homeschool. The associations provide that service. To find a list of associations that participate in the Carolina Homeschooler network, visit http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/aboutus.htm
To find out more about how to homeschool in SC, as well as how to do the paperwork, visit our Legal area and my FAQ area:
http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/legal.htm
http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/faq.htm
If you still have questions after reading those pages, just yell. :smile2: But the first thing you need to do is register with an association so you can withdraw your son quickly.
Warmly,
Dianna

First off you need to find a 3rd option group. I am with piedmont but any I think will be fine. Some require you to bring in assignments like TriCounty others require you to do all the work at home.
Then take the paper work to school and pick up your son. That is all I had to do when we took our daughter out of school 7 years ago now.
Then pick your books: You can use the library too for a cheaper way to go.
Good luck,
Lorna
