Okay, I know this is off the topic of homeschooling, but that's okay. The Around the Kitchen Table forum is for anything! :smile2: Anyway, I've gotten several ear infections in the past year and was getting tired of going to the doctor for them. I noticed that my ears were itching like crazy, and seemed moist prior to the infections.
It finally dawned on me to google itchy ears and ear infections, and I found out that itchy ears were often a result of allergies. My allergies were causing my sinuses to be more moist, and the moisture was settling in my ears and providing a breeding ground for excess bacteria, which caused the ear infections.
To combat both the moisture and the bacteria, several websites suggested the same thing - mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and white distilled vinegar and put two or three drops in each ear. The alcohol will dry up the water, and the acid in the vinegar will kill the bacteria. I tried this and it relieved my symptoms almost immediately. Now I just mix up a batch of this formula and drop a little in both ears when I get out of the shower, and when they feel moist from allergies. I haven't had a problem since. I love it when things work! :smile2:
If you have problems like I've had and want to try this, make sure you don't do this if your eardrums are punctured. All the websites warned against that.
Hope this helps someone else.
