I am a mother of two children, and I am feed up with public schools. Both of my children have ADHD, and as a adult with ADD, I know how they struggle with scoolwork. The school district that they attend, does not recognize ADHD as a learining disability, therefore has given me no help with their education. I am really interrested in homeschooling them, and feel they can benefit better with it. MY 8 yr. old for some reason refuses to read, and is failing second grade. When I ask her "why she will not read", she replies "I am too scared!" I have made the school she attends aware of the problem at the beginning of the school year, and they have done nothing untill now, when it at the end of the school year. Both of my children, even on meds., still cannot sit still, and all i hear is " you need to increase their dosage." I do not feel that my children need their dosage increased. It is hard enough to get them to eat and sleep on the dosage they are on now. I am very concerned about their education, and I feel as though all the public school system wants them to do is to attend so they can get the funding. What ever happened to teachers who teach, and not work just for a paycheck? Do you think I have a good enough reason to want to homeschool?

There are all sorts of good reasons to homeschool! Only YOU (as a parent) can make the decision as to what is best for your children!
I've homeschooled since the my boys were in kindergarten so I have no experience with 'school' - and I've known since we started that I this was the path we were taking and there would be no other 'options'.
Homeschooling takes a lot of committment - but I believe that ANYONE can homeschool successfully if they are committed and determined! :0)

You don't need to have a problem with the school in order to homeschool. My children have never been to school - it's just a lifestyle choice for us. We want to learn together as a family. So don't worry about needing to have a "good enough" reason to homeschool.
To find out more about homeschooling, I would recommend reading through my FAQ area at http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/faq.htm
Once you pull your children out and begin homeschooling, you'll probably find that you can decrease their dosage of ADHD meds or stop administering medication completely. This is because you can work around their specific needs and learning styles instead of trying to make them fit into the needs of the public school system.
Please let us know if you have any other specific questions about homeschooling, and know that you're not alone! :smile2:

No one but you can answer that, but I will say this. I pulled my kids out of school this year on Jan 23, my 6th grader (adhd) and my 2nd time around kindergardener, (LD??), and i havent looked back since. There are really good days and there are REALLY BAD DAYS, but I know I am doing the right thing. My son was on a ton of meds, meds for school, meds to eat, meds to go to bed. Now we have him on just a small dose of strattera and maybe in a while we can stop that. I think you already know what you want to do.. so just do it..
Good luck!!! Angie
