Discovery School - lots of geography lesson plans for all grade levels.

 

Printable Maps - outline maps of countries, useful for tests or coloring.

 

Outline Maps & Map Tests - another website containing outline maps, includes many tests.

 

 

 

Geography Projects

 

Friends & Flags - a collaborative learning project which promotes multicultural awareness by connecting students around the world.

 

Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger - an international project to explore the problems of hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity.

 

World Wise Schools - an international Peace Corp program for K–12 students, providing cross-cultural classroom materials, literature, videos, lessons, ideas, and other services.

 

 

 

Geography Games and Quizzes

 

Geography Games - Sheppard Software map games, helps children gain mental maps of continents, countries, capitals, and geography.

 

GeoSpy - a great timed geography quiz game by National Geographic - fun for children (and adults!).

 

GeoBee - another National Geographic game, not as visually appealing as GeoSpy, but challenging.

 

Games, quizzes, puzzles, and mazes - more interactive treats by for children of all ages, by National Geographic.

 

 

 

Geography Resources

 

CIA's World Factbook - this website is one of the main resources for geographical profiles, flag information, and facts.

 

Portals to the World - this site includes links to electronic resources around the world.

 

 

 

Geography Books and Magazines

 

Faces - a culture/geography magazine from Cobblestone Publishing. Each issue focuses on a specific country or global theme.

 

Reading Around the World - a wonderful list of books that expose children to a different time, place, or culture. Great for augmenting any geography curriculum.

 

Kids Discover - each issue of this magazine centers around one science, geography, or history topic. Articles are short in this publication since the pictures usually take center stage. Visually appealing, for children ages 6 and up.

 

Dig - a wonderful archaeological magazine for middle- to high-school students. Each issue centers around a specific theme.
