Homeschool Books

Homeschooling Handbook - a comprehensive, readable introduction to homeschooling, great for beginning homeschoolers or those considering it.

Unschooling Handbook - a thorough guide to unschooling, a child-led style of homeschooling.

Christian Unschooling - unschooling from a Christian perspective.

Homeschooling for Excellence - a classic about homeschooling. Although the resource recommendations are outdated, the rest of the book is an interesting account of how this homesteading family homeschooled in earlier times.

The First Year of Homeschooling Your Child - a guide to your first year of homeschooling, great for those considering homeschooling.

Homeschooling the Middle Years - a guide to homeschooling during the middle school years.

Homeschooling the Teen Years - a guide to homeschooling during the teen years, includes lists of favorite resources as well as "how I did it" testimonies from parents who've successfully graduated high school homeschoolers.

Homeschool Resources Directory - 150 pages of information on South Carolina homeschooling law, support groups, associations, cooperatives, resource centers, curriculum counseling, tutoring, testing services, classes, and much more.

Homeschool Magazines

Home Education Magazine - respected bi-monthly magazine written from a variety of perspectives, includes content that reflects different homeschooling methods and philosophies.

Homeschooling Today - respected bi-monthly homeschooling magazine written from a Christian perspective, discusses the how's and why's of homeschooling.

The Old Schoolhouse - relatively new quarterly Christian homeschooling magazine, seems to be a new favorite among Christian homeschoolers.

Live Free Learn Free - new (established in 2004) magazine which focuses on unschooling. It seems to fill the gap left when the long-respected Growing Without Schooling stopped publication.

Homeschool Websites

Best Homeschooling - this site contains wonderful and reassuring homeschooling articles by a variety of authors. Take your time reading through this site.

Eclectic Homeschool Online - a place for those who use a combination of methods to homeschool their children.

Homeschool By Design - ideas and encouragement for new and veteran homeschool families.

A to Z Home's Cool - a website with lots of information for beginning homeschoolers.

Unschooling.com - an unschooling website with many essays, articles, and links; also includes uploaded back issues of the old Growing Without Schooling magazine.

Center for Unschooling Information - another unschooling website with articles, message boards, and more.

World Book's Typical Course of Study - a list of typical subjects studied by children in preschool through 12th grade. It's very useful for homeschoolers who follow a child-led learning approach but want grade-appropriate subject ideas.

Donna Young's Homeschool Resources - homeschool forms, school calendars, household planners, printables in various subjects, and planning tips for homeschoolers.

Homeschool Dads - a much-needed website for homeschooling dads.
