----- SC - Para-cycling volunteers needed (begins today)
By Volunteer Coordinator

2013 Para-Cycling Open – Saturday, April 20 & Sunday, April 21
Join us Saturday, April 20 and/or Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CUICAR) for the 2013 Para-Cycling Open. The trials for the world championships track cycling where athletes with a physical disability compete. Catch all the excitement as medal winners from Team USA’s London Paralympics compete against the best of the best from around the globe!

The following Para-Cycling volunteer positions are currently available:

Course Marshal (18+ or 14-17 with parent): Course Marshals are strategically placed on the course along the route. Course Marshals are responsible for ensuring riders are heading in the right direction and to provide an additional safety component for cyclists, keeping the event safe and incident free. Marshals will direct cyclists and assist spectators and pedestrians with event information. Some marshals will also assist the Greenville Police Department at high traffic sections of the course. Transportation is not provided. Some positions will permit you to drive your car to your stationed spot while other positions may be in walking distance. Volunteers will receive t-shirts, lunch, snacks and water.

Saturday Shift: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Sunday Shifts: 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Cheer Stations: Do you need community service hours? Do you have a group of people that would like to support this event, but are too young to volunteer? Consider volunteering as a Cheer Marshal!

Students can receive community service hours for this position and should bring their paperwork the day of the event. There is no age restriction on this position, however, Cheer Marshals under the age of 15 must be with an adult. Cheer Marshals should sign up through the volunteer database in order to receive directions on where to report. While we very much appreciate the volunteers at our cheer stations, because we cannot accurately track the sizes of these groups we are not able to provide a t-shirt to each volunteer. Our first priority is ensuring that volunteers in safety positions such as course marshals have an identifiable volunteer t-shirt. We encourage groups of volunteers in these areas to wear their team, business, or organization t-shirt, or, create their own! Thank you for your understanding!
