Homeschooling parents, teachers, and of course students are welcome to a special day on the farm! Enjoy Rural Hill’s most popular educational program throughout the day and learn of eighteenth century life for the younger generations by interacting with History’s Kids as well!

During the hour long educational program, Light and Heat in the Eighteenth Century, our Education Director Zac Vinson will take you and your students on a fascinating journey back in history to the year 1765, when Rural Hill was first settled by Major John Davidson and his family. Learn about life in a two room cabin and experience firsthand the vast importance of light and heat to our colonial forebears. This program, which focuses both on history and science, is attended by thousands of students per year and continues to receive rave reviews...

History’s Kids is a Charlotte-based group that focuses on educating children about our colonial heritage. The group holds classes and club members take day trips to explore Piedmont history and demonstrate 18th century lifeways. Founder Lisa Jillani is a reenactor with over 20 years of experience in 18th century costuming, cooking, crafts, and the backcountry lifestyle. During the day your students will get to sit down and interact with club members and learn about how colonial life was for the younger generations. If they’re lucky, your students may even be able to make a colonial craft to take home with them!
