at Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site

Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

This free program for all ages will focus on the daily work of the enslaved African-Americans at Rose Hill. Through interactive exhibits such as candle making, brick making, gardening and food preparation, we will examine some of the duties necessary to run an 1800s Upstate plantation.

The program is ongoing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with activities at various locations on the park. No registration is required.

A special performance by Kitty Wilson-Evans, a well-known interpreter of slave life, will take place at 11 a.m. In addition, Tyrie Rowell will present “Cato,” an enslaved brick maker, throughout the morning.

Extra option: Special tours (fee required) of the Gist mansion begin on the hour at 10 a.m. and 1, 2, and 3 p.m. Tours will emphasize the lives of African Americans at Rose Hill.
(Tour prices: Under age 6 yrs./free; Age 6-15 yrs./$4; Age 16+/$5; and SC residents age 65+/$3)
