Hi.  I am a seasoned home schooling Mom.  Our family will be moving to Shaw AFB this summer.  Any co-ops in the Sumter area?  My kids are High schoolers?  Any suggestions of where to get them plugged in?  Piano teacher?  Guitar teacher? Thanks in advance!

We are also moving to Shaw this summer. We are looking for all inclusive, secular groups for teens, tweens and littles as our children are 14,11, and 7.

I am a homeschooling mom in Sumter, SC.  I'm not sure what (if anything) is available on base. There is a support group, Sumter Area Family Educators (http://www.homeschool-life.com/sc/safe/) that has several opportunities during the school year.  There are monthly meetings for moms (and sometimes dads) on various topics, field trips, and classes on Tuesdays (called "Club Day").  Club Day classes vary each year, but there is usually something for kids of all ages. This group is a Christian group, but welcomes all members. There are also homeschool soccer and cross-country teams. There is usually a high school social every month, too.  (Eighth grade siblings are usually welcome.)

I recommend Janet Kulmann for piano lessons and Gibbs guitar for guitar lessons.

For getting plugged in, I recommend the youth group at Harmony Church, one of the homeschool teams, or sports at the Y.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Lynn!  We won't actually live on base and are debating on whether to live in Sumter or move closer to Columbia.  It all depends on what we can find out!  Do you know of any co-ops in Sumter?
