Hi all!

Any adopting families out there?? We're currently pursuing the adoption of a 6 year old with hearing loss from Poland.

Thanks!

Kelli

Hi Kelli,

I'm surprised that there aren't any other adopters out there, but I wanted to encourage you!  No longer in adoption mode, I have two adopted sons, one from Russia adopted at 9 months (now 11!), and one from China, adopted at 5 years, now 9.  I'm certain you will find as I have, that adoption is a gift to YOU!  Challenging? Absolutely!  Life-changing?  You bet!  I can't believe how awesome it is to have these two rowdy characters in my life!  Congratulations, and best wishes!

Kelli, I don't know where you are in the process, but once he comes home, there is a great free resource available to parents of children who are hearing impaired. It's the Described and Captioned Media Program, and it provides free loans of captioned media (streaming and through the mail), as well as ASL instructional videos. Here's the link: http://www.dcmp.org/

Warmly,
Dianna
