Break through the ice of the Antarctic on an epic expedition to unearth a world of dinosaurs! Join us at Discovery Place to see their new Antarctic Dinosaurs exhibit, watch an IMAX, and enjoy an educational program!
When: April 13
Where: Discovery Place, Charlotte NC
Registration Deadline: March 10
Join forces with a team of scientists and researchers to explore four new dinosaur species uncovered from the depths of Antarctic ice. This exhibit will immerse us in the extreme environment and challenges of living and working in the Antarctic. We’ll investigate the origins of the frozen land and handle equipment used by investigators to excavate one of earth’s least hospitable environments.
We’ll get to…
- See artifacts from early Antarctic expeditions, including Captain Robert Scott’s ill-fated Terra Nova.
- Take a virtual ride in a replica LC-130 aircraft as we fly over Antarctica.
- Watch as the team excavates fossils and prepares them back at the lab.
- Meet four new species of dinosaur, all discovered within the last 30 years.
The timing of events will be provided later, but plan for morning through afternoon.
Dinosaurs of Antarctica IMAX
In this IMAX, we’ll get a close look at the Antarctic expedition locations featured in the exhibit and journey to the south polar landscapes of Antarctica as it was in the past. We’ll see primitive forests and thick swamps where bizarre dinosaurs roam, enter a surreal world of bug-eyed giants, and join intrepid Antarctic scientists on a quest to understand the ice continent’s profound transformation.
We’ll enjoy a mix of demonstrations, hands-on experiments, and visual displays to learn more about the supercontinent Pangea and different kinds of fossils in Antarctica. (For kindergarten and up.)
This field trip is appropriate for students in kindergarten and up. At least one parent or designated adult must participate with their student(s). Younger children can’t join us for the educational program, so you’ll need an extra adult with your party to watch them while you and your older children do the educational program.
Cost, Cancellations, and Refund Policy
The cost is $21 per person (or $22 debit/credit), kindergarten and up. For younger children and the adult(s) not attending the educational program, the price is $15 (or $16 debit/credit). Children under age 2 are free (age verification required).
This price includes the admission, exhibit, IMAX, and educational program for children in kindergarten and up. For younger children and adults not attending the educational program, the price includes admission, exhibit, and IMAX.
Parking is an additional $12 per vehicle if you park in Discovery Place’s parking deck (payable to Discovery Place when you exit the garage).
Lunch is not provided, so plan to bring your own food and drinks (we have a reserved space to each lunch), or eat at the museum’s cafe (organic foods), or there are plenty of restaurants within a block of the museum.
