IEP for homeschooled children over 5 years old

We have a child who is four years old and currently has an IEP through Child Find. He is homeschooled but we agreed in his IEP that he would receive some special education services for one hour twice per week with his local public school. Long story short, we were told by our contact through Child Find that if we did decide NOT to put him into full-time public school in kindergarten that we would have to drop his IEP all together and discontinue services. Homeschooling was not an option if we want any state support for him. Does anyone have experience with this or know it to be true/not true? Thank you for any advice!

Hi Caroline,

Every homeschooled child basically has an "IEP." However, different schools handle special services to children differently. I would recommend calling the special services office at your school district and asking them what services they would provide for your child if you homeschool.

Warmly,
Dianna
